Should the above procedure fail or in order to double-check the success of this operation please follow the steps below:
  1. Shutdown all BitDefender services from the Services console (Start -> Run..., then type services.msc and hit Enter); the BitDefender services are:
    • BitDefender NPCore;
    • BitDefender NPLogger;
    • BitDefender Registry v2;
    • BitDefender Statistics;
    • BitDefender Update Service;
    • BitDefender File Server;
  2. Open Registry Editor (Start -> Run..., then type regedit and hit Enter) and delete the following keys:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Softwin\;
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Softwin\;
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BDNPCORE;

  3. Using Registry Editor browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls and and delete ONLY the keys containing Softwin in the path; the alternative for this step is to use the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility.
