Revealing hidden system files and system folders

Issue:

In certain situations, it's not enough to use the Search option from Windows to find a certain file/folder. Some of the files/folders on the computer are hidden and the user has to change the settings in Folder Options to reveal the hidden objects.

Solution:

In order to reveal the objects all you need to do is to follow these
steps:

From Start open Control Panel, then Folder Options and access the View
screen. Here you will have to change the following:
1. Check "Display the contents of system folders"
2. Select "Show hidden files and folders"
3. UNcheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
4. UNcheck "Hide protected operating system files". When prompted to click 'Yes' or 'No' to display the files you will have to select 'Yes'.
5. Hit Apply.
NOTE: On Windows Vista the same steps can be applied except the first one. The first option, "Display contents of system folders" is available only in Windows Xp.

After locating the hidden file/folder and finishing your work you can change the settings back to the default configuration.
