How to scan your computer for rootkits

BitDefender provides two possible methods to scan your computer for hidden threats:

WITH BITDEFENDER

After installing one of the BitDefender products for desktops (BitDefender Antivirus 10, BitDefender Antivirus Plus 10 or BitDefender Interne Security 10) you can scan your computer using the built-in task provided by the product.

In order to use the respective task we recommend you to follow the steps presented below:

1. Open BitDefender and go to Antivirus -> Scan;
2. Right-click on the task and choose Properties; make sure that the slider is set at Medium;
3. Click OK and then Run Task.

The scan will search for hidden files and processes. If the scan report will show files reported as hidden make sure to submit the scan report via email to our Technical Support Department. The technical support team will further assist you.

WITHOUT BITDEFENDER

If you do not have BitDefender installed on your system the alternative is BitDefender Rootkit Uncover. This small but powerful tool is available as a Beta 2 version and can provide enough information in terms of hidden files and processes.

In order to use BitDefender Rootkit Uncover you need to follow the steps below:

1. Download (save) the tool on your disk into a location of your choice;
2. After the download completes locate the file in the location you chose and run it (double-click);
3. Accept the Terms and Conditions then click Next and then Scan;
4. Once the scan completes proceed with contacting the Technical Support Department for further analysis.
