BitDefender for Exchange Cluster Compatibility

Issue:

Explains how BitDefender for Exchange integrates in an Exchange cluster, and presents the compatiblity limitations.

Solution:

BitDefender for Exchange was designed for stand-alone Exchange servers. However, the product can still be used in clusters but with some limitations:

  • In a cluster, BitDefender for Exchange must be installed on each server included in the cluster. This allows for each Exchange server from the cluster to benefit of the antivirus and antispam protection. In the products requiring SMTP configuration (BitDefender for Exchange 2000), the real SMTP server will be the virtual server.
  • The alerts are available through SMTP. A modified version allows sending the mails to the virtual server on SMTP, to an account visible from outside the Exchange organization.
  • The scanning statistics are created and stored on each of the cluster mail servers.

BitDefender for Exchange was tested in an active-passive cluster configuration with two servers.
