Virus scanning from command prompt

Summary:

This document describes how to scan with BitDefender from command prompt.

Detailed description:

BitDefender antivirus includes bdc.exe, a command prompt component. It is recommended to use bdc.exe in operating modes where the services and the console are unavailable.

Although it is possbile to use bdc.exe in combination with Windows Task Scheduler for automatic full system scans, it is recommended to make use of BitDefender's own Scheduler module for scheduling automatic scan tasks.

To use bdc.exe:

  1. Enter the Command Prompt console.

Click Start, then All Programs. Select Accessories and click Command Prompt.

  2. Go to BitDefender Scan Server folder.

In the Command Prompt Console type the commands: %SystemDrive% cd %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\ where

    • %SystemDrive% represents the drive on which is installed the operating system.
    • %ProgramFiles% represents the default path to the Program Files folder.

To obtain the local values for %SystemDrive% and %ProgramFiles% type the command: set

  3. Run bdc.exe.

To disinfect the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /dis

To quarantine the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /move /moves

To delete the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /del

A scan on all drives might take up to several hours. The command prompt antivirus scanner doesn't inform on the length of the scan process. At the end of the scan process, bdc.exe displays a summary and returns the command prompt. Open the file bdscan.log to see the analysis report.

To obtain a list of all the viruses detected by BitDefender type the command: bdc /vlist > vlist.txt

The full list of options available can be obtained with the command: bdc /help
